The Obodo Collective Planting

We partnered with Rise Up Nevada Education, Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, and Housing Assistance Corp. to help The Obodo Collective put the finishing touches on their urban farm in Las Vegas’ Historic Westside.

Thank you Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom and City of Las Vegas Councilwoman Olivia Díaz for the support, to our partners Sierra Club, Chispa Nevada, XL Landscape, ASLA Nevada, Southwest Gas, US Forest Service, and Nevada Division of Forestry, and the neighborhood who said YES to almost 90 trees!
Eco-Topia

We tabled at Eco-topia and donated an artichoke agave to Ferguson’s Downtown in remembrance of the victims of the Route 91 Harvest Festival tragedy. Remembering the tragedy, the loved ones, the survivors, the first responders, all medical staff and all the extended family, and all those who continue on the path of recovery.

Special thanks to Starla Newcomb for creating Eco-Topia, and asking us to attend. We raffled off an apple and pomegranate tree, and had lots of fun with partners and met new friends. We learned a lot from urban farmers David the Green Samaritan and Farmer Jen, and met new groups who are ready to plant!
Ely Western Shoshone Planting

We planted 40 trees with the Ely Western Shoshone. There was strong support from hard working youth, residents, teachers, Tribal staff, Tribal police and a special shout out to Tribal Chair Diana Buckner and Ely Tree Board Bill Wolf for partnering with Nevada Plants.

We gave away 25 red apple trees grown by White Pine High School as well as planted trees at the Baker School and the Stargazer Inn Meditation Garden.
Regan Russell Memorial Evening

We planted a memorial tree at All Friends Animal Sanctuary LV to honor Regan Russell, a Canadian animal activist killed while trying to save others. The documentary “There Was A Killing” was shown after the planting along with a vegan potluck.

City of Reno Tree Planting

We repotted 50 trees in collaboration with the City of Reno. We learned about the different types of trees the city has growing, where they plant them, and how they help the trees adjust to Nevada’s arid climate.

The Solidarity Fridge Tree Planting

We joined Fifth Sun, Las Vegas DSA, The Obodo Collective and Slow Food Vegas to plant fruit trees at The Solidarity Fridge, a community pantry on the Eastside of Las Vegas. There was also seed sharing, building of raised beds, a compost workshop, a yoga trapeze workshop by Shyft House, and vegan ceviche served by Chef Louie.

- Tanzania tree planting. We planted 1,100 trees to combat climate change worldwide. Species included Casuarina cunningham, Cordia africana, Acrocarpus fraxinifolius,Senna spectabilis and Croton megalocarpus. Helping partners across the globe is just as important as working at home.
