SUMMARY:Coyote Melon Planting at Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an exciting morning planting some coyote melon\, a bitter native squash to humans\, but a delicious meal for coyotes and other animals!  Native Americans used the seeds for food and extracted the oil to make paint pigments.  The melon makes great gourds\, rattles\, and drinking cups\, and the tuber is used for soap!  Learn more about this remarkable plant! \nPlease dress for the weather!  Close-toed shoes are recommended.  Coverings such as hats\, sunscreen\, and cooling towels for the heat and sun.  Always carry water and take light snacks while working.  Gloves and tools will be provided. \nFirst-time visitors must register at the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve’s visitor center.  The preserve is right next to the City of Henderson Animal Shelter.  Watch for signs!  You will proceed on a small road (15 MPH) to ample parking.  We will meet in front of the visitor center.  See you there!
