DESCRIPTION:June 19th is the 3rd anniversary of the late activist Regan Russell’s death. On June 19th\, 2020 she was ran over by a slaughter truck driver while she was crossing the street at Fearman’s slaughterhouse in Burlington\, Ontario\, Canada. To this day\, the driver was only charged a $2\,000 fine- the minimum possible fine. Regan’s life was worth more than that. \nOn June 24th\, we’ll be honoring Regan and supporting the animals at your local Vegas vegan sanctuary\, All Friends Animal Sanctuary. \nStarting at 6 pm until sundown\, we’ll be planting 7 trees to provide shade for the animal residents at All Friends. Nevada Plants will be lending their expertise. Vegan food will be provided for volunteers from Chef Louie’s Vegan Food and Erbs Vegan Kitchen\, and Vegan Keda Veggie Eats will be at the sanctuary with her soaps and other goods for sale. \nEspecially if you have tree planting experience we’d love your help (but tree planting experience isn’t necessary). \nAbout Regan Russell: \nSince 1979\, Regan advocated on behalf of forgotten and vulnerable humans and non-human animals\, was arrested 11 times for civil disobedience\, and was loved by all those who knew her. \nBill 156\, passed two days before Regan’s death\, criminalized recording/documenting what happens in animal ag at slaughter houses\, farms and any animal exploitative entity. Whistleblowers were persecuted for exposing the truth that the powers that be try hard to keep hidden. \nTo keep Regan’s memory alive and to continue to share her story\, and for the animals she fought so bravely for\, please join us! \nAll Friends is a private sanctuary near Town Square. DESCRIPTION:Join us for an exciting morning planting some coyote melon\, a bitter native squash to humans\, but a delicious meal for coyotes and other animals!  Native Americans used the seeds for food and extracted the oil to make paint pigments.  The melon makes great gourds\, rattles\, and drinking cups\, and the tuber is used for soap!  Learn more about this remarkable plant! \nPlease dress for the weather!  Close-toed shoes are recommended.  Coverings such as hats\, sunscreen\, and cooling towels for the heat and sun.  Always carry water and take light snacks while working.  Gloves and tools will be provided. \nFirst-time visitors must register at the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve’s visitor center.  The preserve is right next to the City of Henderson Animal Shelter.  Watch for signs!  You will proceed on a small road (15 MPH) to ample parking.  We will meet in front of the visitor center.  See you there!
